Green Assembly

Delhi schools green assembly

( we didn’t debate the title )

Aim is the same

Operation

·       Constructed on the lines of the united nations, each member school has 3 eco-club representatives in the green assembly.

·       The assembly has a rotating secretariat that is housed once in 2 months. The secretariat school (host school) plays host to all activities of the assembly.

·       The selection of the secretariat will be done by first short listing the schools on the basis of their inclination and resources and then a draw of lots. The short listing will be done online. (Mention the place.)

·       The school that has hosted the previous meeting will not get another consecutive chance.

·       The green assembly will also elect a council. This council will comprise of 1 member from the 3 members from each school as aforementioned.

·       1 teacher ( who the students think is appropriate) plus the Delhi greens will form a mentor council. The mentor council will be the advisor and will oversee the activities of the assembly in a non-interfering way.

·       All the documents ( projects, reports, proposals etc) compiled after each meeting will be handed over to the Delhi greens by the host school. Then Delhi greens will put up this information for everyone’s access on the website, dedicated by the Delhi greens to the assembly.

·       None of the decisions of the Delhi greens will be binding.

·       The council is responsible for organizing relevant workshops, events, etc throughout the year involving students of other “non elitist schools” to join in. this has to be done gradually.

·       Delhi greens will provide intellectual, logistical, fund-raising and any other kind of help required for all events, workshops etc.

·       On popular demand, it has been agreed upon that Sanskriti will be the first host school.

  1. The Panel Discussion

Topics discussed in the PD will be a) whether conferences, meetings, consultations etc translate into real action or not b) if those leading the movement are themselves hypocrites c) if the fight against global warming a movement? If so, is it very elitist to make any difference?

The Panelists will be Sunny Verma, Subhro Mukherjee, IYCN members and a few other students of other schools. SPM will most probably moderate it. Details not very clear as of now.

  1. Group Discussion
The following people are a must for the GD- Environment Council members, Minakshi Khemka, Nita Ganguly and all other GB members. Chandika Gupta will be in-charge of this. We will try to evolve a green assembly as discussed with our partner Delhi Greens. Details will be put up shortly. But the catch is that we will have to listen to the reactions of the students of other schools rather than talking on and on ourselves. A consensus is critical for the success of the GD. It is highly informal but ought to be the most productive. We are trying to create a Green Assembly here.
  1. A band performance by Dhruv Visvanath and company. A ppt will be put up so that the audience can sing along!
